Chris Brown – Pull Up

Chris Brown delivers the first of three new “Heartbreak On A Full Moon” singles.

October may be associated with a few things, chiefly Halloween, and I suppose Drake’s October’s Very Own imprint throws his name in contention. Yet Chris Brown is making a strong case for an October takeover, with his eighth studio album Heartbreak On A Full Moon scheduled to drop on Halloween, just in time for a legion of parties to pop off. Last week, Breezy came through with another trio of singles from the album, with “Confidence,” “Only 4 Me,” and “Tempo.” And the most beautiful thing about this is, even after releasing six songs, that’s only a fraction of the album. Remember, Heartbreak is clocking in at a staggering, and perhaps record setting forty-five songs, so it’s no wonder his weekly singles are coming in threes.RELATED: Chris Brown, Ty Dolla $ign, & Verse Simmonds Drop “Only 4 Me”Of the three most recent releases, which are currently available in select international markets only (sorry about that), “Pull Up” stands out as the most immediately accessible. Over an up-tempo, chime driven beat, Chris Breezy showcases his versatile voice, sliding effortlessly into falsetto as he spits game. The percussion is particularly clever, with the kicks pounding in triplicate in tandem with Breezy’s melody. Sonically, it’s certainly one of the more intriguing Heartbreak tracks we’ve received thus far; Chris Brown occasionally drowns his voice in effects, and his clever vocoder use would make both Roger Troutman and Kanye West proud.RELATED: Chris Brown’s “Heartbreak On A Full Moon” Tracklist Features Jhené Aiko, Lil Yachty & MoreIf there’s one potential drawback, it’s that the subject matter is pretty typical for Chris Brown. He tends to enjoy singing about seducing and subsequently having sex with women. Don’t get me wrong, that’s certainly a top tier activity, yet it might get a little stale over the course of forty-five tracks. Still, as the old adage goes, “write what you know.” And as the even older adage goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Quotable Lyrics

I know you got a bad side,
I slide right through your door,
Now take off all your clothes
Don’t make me wait too long
