Black Panther Remains No. 1 For Fifth Consecutive Week
“Black Panther” outruns “Tomb Raider.”
Tomb Raider—a reboot of the videogame adaptation originally starring Angelina Jolie in the early 2000’s—didn’t quite live up to the success it was slated to bring in North America, raking in a figure just shy of the $25 million mark with $23.5 mill and pulling in at a close second. Despite a modest showing on the home front, the film clearly resonated with foreign audiences, making it the No. 1 film in the world after pulling in $102.5 million overseas—making a big impact with $41.1 million in China—bringing the overall total to $126 million globally.
“I really hoped we would do more than $25 million domestically, but the fact that we were No. 1 globally is terrific news,” Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein noted. “We always viewed this as an international play.”
